Undergraduate Information
The B.A. and B.S. degree programs and a minor in Biology require Biology 160, 161, 162 and 163 as initial courses (prerequisite for Bisc 160 is a minimum ACT mathematics score of 25 (SAT 580) or B minimum in Chem 101 (Chemical Concepts), or B minimum in the following: Math 121 (College Algebra) and Math 123 (Trigonometry), or Math 125 (a pre-calculus course) or higher. These courses provide the foundation for subsequent work and are prerequisites for admission into advanced major courses. Biology 102, 103, 104, and 105, intended for non-majors, may not be used to satisfy departmental core requirements for biology majors and minors. Supplementary Honors sections Biology 164H and 165H are available. Students must achieve a grade of C or better in all course work counted for the major and minor in biology, and every biology course requires a grade of C or better in all prerequisite courses (except for BISC 104/105), including those prerequisite courses from other departments. For example, Bisc 160 and 161 must be passed with a grade of C or better before Bisc 162 and 163 may be taken. In addition, Bisc 160, 161, 162, and 163 must be passed with a grade of C or better before any additional biology course at the 300 level or above is attempted.
